The greatest ailment of our time is lack of principle. We are faced with a political language where self-interest has replaced principle, and benefit has replaced justice. Pragmatism and utilitarianism have ceased to be academic concepts and have become the main axis of governance. The concept of "maslahat" (public interest/expediency) has been distanced from being a religiously binding notion and transformed into a cover for self-serving interests.
In this issue, we examine how pragmatism has poisoned politics, what friendship with the US truly means, and the failure of the international legal order in the examples of Palestine and Venezuela. We scrutinize the mental constraints behind the question, "Is intervention in Israel against national interests?", and question who the conservative democratic discourse serves.
We discuss how the concept of expediency has been distorted, how social degeneration spreads from top to bottom, and the importance of the concepts of loyalty and disavowal (wala and bara). We also examine the global goals of the "Trump Doctrine" and its stance towards the Caliphate.
This number is a call for confrontation. Because the issue is not just wrong policies, but wrong standards. When standards are off, politics goes wrong; when politics goes wrong, society disintegrates; when society disintegrates, humiliation becomes commonplace.
It doesn't take great sagacity to see that many attitudes defended today in the name of "self-interest" will become a source of shame tomorrow. The problem is not weakness; it is lack of principles. The problem is not opportunity; it is direction.
If expediency is placed above religious rulings; if friendship is determined by self-interest rather than truth; if politics speaks the language of circumstance rather than revelation… then there is a breakdown.
This number points to that breaking point.
